Spring 2002:
  • Ryan McCormick records Demonstration - at home, on his computer
Summer 2002:
  • Demonstration released under the name Collapsing Opposites and sent to various BC college radio stations
  • Collapsing Opposites invited to perform at Shindig, CITR's annual battle-of-the-bands competition
Fall 2002:
  • The first Collapsing Opposites "band" is formed, plays two shows (including a loss at Shindig), and then breaks up
June 25, 2003:
  • Ryan is given a looping pedal and redefines Collapsing Opposites as a solo act
Sept. 4, 2003:
  • Collapsing Opposites debuts as a solo act, opening for Mayor McCA at the Brickyard in Vancouver
Fall 2003:
  • Various shows in Vancouver, writing new songs, etc.
February 2004:
  • "So Long to the Buffalo" Tour, the first ever, through BC and Alberta, with Traitor and the Whore
Spring 2004:
  • Various shows in Vancouver
Summer 2004:
  • Writing new songs while living on Texada Island
August 2004:
  • "Try / Don't Try" Tour of the Northwest, with Man Meets Bear
Fall 2004 / Winter 2005:
  • Recording of Mean Letters album, at Pippo Sound, with Pietro Sammarco
April 10, 2005:
May 2005:
  • "We Both Want to Go and Listen to Our Ears Speak" Tour across Canada
June 2005:
  • "Sunshine and Rain Clouds and Those In Between" Mini-Tour of the Northwest
Summer 2005:
  • "Brains Aren't Important Anymore" Tour across Canada
August 2005:
  • Collapsing Opposites goes to Japan for the six-show "Microchips Implanted In Your Brain" Tour
October 2005:
  • "Mirror Stage" tour of Western Canada, with The Winks

Fall 2005 / Winter 2006:
April 2006:
  • "Teachers and Students" Tour of the West Coast, partly with Anni Rossi and partly with The Gift Machine
Summer 2006:
  • "Two-Party System" Tour of North America (42 days, the longest tour yet)
  • Laura Hatfield joins Collapsing Opposites mid-tour as the drummer. They have one practice at Friendship Cove in Montreal, and then Laura plays on the rest of the tour, borrowing drums from local bands. The response is positive, and plans are made to become a 3-piece band.
Fall 2006 / Winter 2007:
  • Collapsing Opposites adds a keyboardist - Adam Horn plays three shows, and then Jeff Johnson takes over
  • Final production and mixing of Inside Chance, with Pietro Sammarco, at Pippo Sound
February 27, 2007:
March 2007:
  • "No Breakes" Tour of the West Coast with The Doers; Collapsing Opposites is Ryan, Laura and Jeff
  • "Natural Disasters" Tour of Western Canada with Ok Vancouver Ok; Collapsing Opposites is Ryan, Jeff and Geoff
May 2007:
  • Collapsing Opposites becomes Ryan, Sean (drums) and Caitlin (keyboards)
June 2007:
  • Tour of North America
September 2007:
  • The Story of the Rocks EP recorded at home
October 2007:
  • Music and Words audio cassette recorded / compiled / mixed / mastered
Nov. 3-7, 2007:
  • Music and Words audio cassette released on French Immersion Records
January 2008:
  • Collapsing Opposites becomes Ryan, Laura (drums) and Jarrett (bass)
May 2008:
  • The Story of the Rocks EP released on-line as a free download
