  • Ryan McCormick records Demonstration - at home, in his bedroom, on his computer
June 2002:
  • Demonstration released under the name Collapsing Opposites and sent to various BC college radio stations
August 2002:
  • Collapsing Opposites invited to perform at Shindig, CITR's annual battle-of-the-bands competition
Fall 2002:
  • Ryan puts an ad in the 'Musicians Wanted' section of the Georgia Straight, and the first Collapsing Opposites band is formed, with Ryan on vocals and guitar/saxophone, Sean on vocals/bass, Kristine on keyboard, Tristan on guitar and Wenzel on drums; the group plays two shows (including a loss at Shindig) then breaks up
June 25, 2003:
  • Ryan is given a looping pedal and redefines Collapsing Opposites as a solo act
Sept. 4, 2003:
  • Collapsing Opposites debuts as a solo act, opening for Mayor McCA at the Brickyard in Vancouver

Summer 2006:
  • Laura Hatfield joins Collapsing Opposites mid-tour as the drummer. They have one practice at Friendship Cove in Montreal, and Laura plays on the rest of the tour, borrowing drums from local bands. The response is positive, and plans are made to form a 3-piece band.
Fall 2006 / Winter 2007:
  • Collapsing Opposites adds a keyboardist - Adam Horn plays three shows, and then Jeff Johnson takes over
Fall 2006 / Winter 2007:
  • Final production and mixing of Inside Chance, with Pietro Sammarco, at Pippo Sound

  • Trio tour of the West Coast with The Doers; Collapsing Opposites is Ryan, Laura and Jeff

  • The band records seven songs as part of an artist residency at the Exchange Gallery in Dublin, Ireland

  • Laura and Jason remain in Europe; a brief solo era ensues
October 2010:
  • Sean rejoins the band on drums, Aaron joins the band on guitar and Enzio joins on keyboard; Collapsing Opposites is now a quintet, with Jarrett on bass and Ryan on vocals only
Nov. 2010:
  • Jarrett leaves the band and is replaced by Cody on bass
Dec. 2010 / Jan. 2011:
  • Sean leaves the band and is replaced by Marty on drums
Jan.-Sept. 2011:
  • The band records six more songs at their practice space at Enzio's house to go with the ones recorded the previous summer in Ireland on an upcoming release

  • Cody leaves the band; Ryan plays a few solo shows while a replacement is sought.

  • Matt joins the band on bass
Oct. 8, 2011
  • Real Moving released on MP3 independently and on cassette by Radical Clatter

  • Enzio leaves the band, and Liza joins on keyboard
  • Aaron goes on hiatus from the band, and Jay joins on guitar
